I have been a lifelong photography enthusiast, beginning as a School Page Editor at a small CT newspaper, covering the non- sports activities at five schools. Since I was the only staff photographer who lived in town, I also covered any after hour’s emergency situations. This experience taught me the basics of photography both on site and in the darkroom.
Photography did take a back seat to family and a business career for 45 years. After this hiatus, I returned to photography but this time with a greater emphasis on capturing the beauty of God’s creation in as many pictures as possible. My photography skill improvement has come from a mix of formal courses, field location workshops, peer coaching, professional photographer presentations, and on-line learning. Most importantly, experience was my best teacher. I make a point of spending several hours each week seeking out subjects in CT and annually visiting other states for specific subject opportunities. I have exhibited at two art galleries and numerous civic, town and business venues. I have also had my work published in area magazines as well as an on line news publication. I am a member of the CT Valley Camera Club Steering Committee and arrange the monthly photo shoots as a way for members to exercise the skills learn from the various speakers. As a community service, I serve as the photographer for the Essex Volunteer Fire Department. Also, as a way to help beginning photographers, I periodically deliver a two part Basic Photography Class to people interested in both learning the fundamentals of our discipline as well as mastering their digital camera. |
