Watercolor sketches allow the recording of experience and place, seen through the filters of interest, and time, much as charcoal or pencil drawing, but with the added emotion of color. Clay on the other hand, with its magic qualities of plasticity – which can be made permanent - is a joy to work with.” “Mixed media drawing is, I find, much like creating sculpture in clay. I use backgrounds of random prints often made with pigment and paper over a light pencil sketch. Oil crayon, litho pencils, acrylic washes and bronzing powders, along with occasional collaged materials such as mica, sand or sawdust, build up the surface texture and complete the visual image.” “Art expression is for me, a process of connecting with and understanding, our physical and spiritual world. Form, color, texture and their movement through time and space, help express the unity, and show the relationships or connectivity, of all creation.” |
