I was born and raised in the Moodus section of East Haddam and attended local school.
As a child I loved coloring and drawing and in my free time would spend hours with crayons, shading and dreaming of some of the places I would imagine and bring to life on paper. Once a teenager I had to work and with school, there wasn't time for art. This was forgotten for several years. Years later, my late husband Eddie and I bought a building on Rt. 82 in East Haddam and opened the Ye Olde Fashioned Christmas Shoppe which we operated for 20 years. This building is now the E.H. Historical Society and Museum. Our Christmas Shoppe was quite the adventure and I found myself displaying, decorating and designing the vast merchandise that arrived daily. Bursting with color all around me, I began to think of painting and finally enrolled in the Tracy Art Center in Old Saybrook. With new paints, brushes and art paper, I discovered my love of painting. I discovered there was so much to learn as I dove into watercolors. I still love the softness of watercolors but have been painting with acrylics and am enjoying this medium. Amazing and fulfilling, one can spend hours at this wonderful craft. For the past 20 years I have been fortunate to winter in Venice, Florida. I continue to study at Venice Art Center where there are numerous choices of classes to attend. Their motto: SEE ART, FEEL ART, CREATE ART. It's a fabulous center to explore and learn from talented teachers who share their creative knowledge. When Covid hit, all our lives changed. Not being able to be FREE as we always have, is difficult for us all. I felt I had to find something new to inspire me and keep me busy, thus, I am now painting with palette knives and enjoying a different style. Another challenge. Painting for me is expression and relaxation; it quiets my mind and is a huge part of my life. I am a lifelong resident of East Haddam, I have 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and blessed with 2 Great Grandchildren. I am happy to say I am a Founding Member of the E.H. Art League. |
